In the novel Camel-hair coat Elin makes a journey in space and time. In company with her boyfriend she heads east with the goal to lay a flower on her grandmothers grave.
But on the other shore of the Baltic sea she only finds mass graves which witness of a horrifying time.
This world war time in the middle of Europe is portrayed in the perspective of a family and the reader follows the fate of the family members which is escape, death, murder and destruction. There are still hope of new life though the grandfather of Elins boyfriends reveals himself to have been participating in killing women and children; Elin gets pregnant during their journey!
Short biography:
Matilda Matsson is made in a lunch brake at the nurse home of the hospital Karolinska sjukhusets in Stockholm where her mother worked so she is also born and baptized at this hospital. She spent her childhood in the suburb Täby together with a foreigner mother and a Swedish father.
She has worked; postman, conductor, receptionist in sailing club, extra actor, nursing assistant, memory trainer, museum guide, upper secondary school teacher, instructor of yoga.
She has been studying; B A in Economic history and M A in Literature.
She has published novels, short stories, essays and articles and she has been teaching creative writing.
